3D magnetic-field morphology of the Perseus molecular cloud

چکیده

Context. Despite recent observational and theoretical advances in mapping the magnetic fields associated with molecular clouds, their three-dimensional (3D) morphology remains unresolved. Multi-wavelength multi-scale observations will allow us to paint a comprehensive picture of these star-forming regions. Aims. We reconstructed 3D field Perseus cloud compared it predictions cloud-formation models. These models predict bending filamentary clouds. orientation direction this our magnetic-field view cloud. Methods. used previous line-of-sight plane-of-sky as well Galactic reconstruct complete vectors Results. approximated concave arc that points decreasing longitude plane sky (from point view). This preserves memory field. In order compare model predictions, we assume retains its most interaction. Supersonic Turbulence in the Perseus Molecular Cloud

We compare the statistical properties of J=1→0 CO spectra observed in the Perseus Molecular Cloud with synthetic J=1→0 CO spectra, computed solving the non–LTE radiative transfer problem for a model cloud obtained as solutions of the three dimensional magneto–hydrodynamic (MHD) equations. The model cloud is a randomly forced super–Alfvénic and highly super–sonic turbulent isothermal flow. The p...

Dust Emission from the Perseus Molecular Cloud

Using far-infrared emission maps taken by IRAS and Spitzer and a near-infrared extinction map derived from 2MASS data, we have made dust temperature and column density maps of the Perseus molecular cloud. We show that the emission from transiently heated very small grains (VSGs) and the big grain dust emissivity vary as a function of extinction and dust temperature, with higher dust emissivitie...

Supersonic Random Flows in the Perseus Molecular Cloud

We compare the statistical properties of J=1→0 CO spectra observed in the Perseus Molecular Cloud with synthetic J=1→0 CO spectra from a 5 pc model cloud. The synthetic spectra are computed solving the non–LTE radiative transfer problem for a model cloud obtained as solutions of the 3–D magneto–hydrodynamic (MHD) equations in both the highly supersonic and super–Alfvénic regimes of random flows...

Evolution of Rotating Molecular Cloud Core with Oblique Magnetic Field

We studied the collapse of rotating molecular cloud cores with inclined magnetic fields, based on three-dimensional numerical simulations. The numerical simulations start from a rotating Bonnor–Ebert isothermal cloud in a uniform magnetic field. The magnetic field is initially taken to be inclined from the rotation axis. As the cloud collapses, the magnetic field and rotation axis change their ...

The structure and dynamics of the dense cores in the Perseus molecular cloud complex

We have produced wide-field (>∼0.1 deg2) images of the molecular gas around the dense cores observed by Ladd et al. (1994) in the Perseus cloud complex in various CO (CO(1–0), 13CO(1–0), C18O(1–0)) and CS (CS(2–1), C34S(2–1)) isotopomers, and N2H(1–0), using the 16-element focal plane array operating at a wavelength of 3 mm at the Five College Radio Astronomy Observatory. We also performed mosa...
